Plan For Success! Start With Your Home Office Furniture

admin

When you first begin to plan your home business, one of the first things that you should consider is your work space. Experts suggest that you set aside a specific area in your home as your designated work space, even if you do not have an actual office. A desk and office set up, even if it is in the corner of a room, can help to organize your work and increase your production.

So, the first thing that you need to do is decide on the space that you will designate as your workspace. If it is a separate room, measure the room so that you will know what exactly will fit and the desk size that you need. If you are using an area in an occupied room, rope off the area and take measurements. When surveying the area, keep in mind any windows or existing built in shelving that you may have to work around with your furniture.

As you begin to deliberate on the type of home office furniture that you will get, consider your own personal tastes as well as the functionality of the pieces. Think of the things that you will have on your desk, such as a computer, telephone and desk organizer. You will want to have enough room for these items as well as an ample workspace. Will you be keeping paper files? You will need some type of filing cabinet. Think about these things as you look for your furnishings. You may even use masking tape to outline where your desk and other home office furniture will go. This will allow you to see just who much room you have available, how much room you will have with the furniture and how large is too large for a desk or credenza, making your home office space too crowded.

Once you find a style that you like, get the measurements and lay out an outline of the furniture to the sizes of the pieces so that you can get an idea of your arrangement and how much free space you will have. You may find that your first, second and even third choices simply do not “fit” into your selected space. Just keep working at it and eventually you will find the furniture that fits your home office to a “T.”

When your furniture is delivered, or you pick it up, you will be met with the challenge of getting it through your door. If it is not yet assembled, this is not a problem. However, a fully assembled executive desk can pose a real challenge when you are trying to get it through a doorway. Some creative tilting and maneuvering can manage to get an executive size desk through a doorway that is around 30 inches wide, but it is even better if the doorway is 31 inches wide. If it is not wide enough, you may be able to remove the top until you get the desk where it needs to be. You will have to check with the delivery people or the manufacturer if you are bringing it home yourself.
