The Egg, A Good Creation Touched By The Simple Hands of Arne Jacobsen

Men usually Keep in mind the Finnish architect Arne Jacobsen for his legacy in designed some of the world’s most popular furniture designs. acknowledged as one of the founders of the Danish Modern style, Arne Jacobsen has also created a number of designs of chairs, sofas, and other furnishings that are light, ergonomic, and fresh for its time. One such kind of a furniture work by Arne Jacobsen is the Egg Chair.

If there was requirement to signify the total body of work Arne Jacobsen has made in the world of furniture design, the Egg Chair would be a very good contestant. Also plainly named as the Egg, the Egg Chair is a red lounge chair made up of a spherical seat and backrest and a composite steel base. The Egg was created by Jacobsen in 1958 as furnitures for the reception and lobby areas of the Radisson SAS Royal Hotel (which Jacobsen also planned) in Copenhagen, Denmark. A human with a love for detail, Jacobsen created the soft, rounded features of the chair to match the hard, linear structure of the Hotel’s exterior and interior.

Comparable to other designs by Jacobsen, the looks of the Egg Chair is light, simple, and very new for its day. To reach the chair’s circular feature, the body of the Egg is built from a unreal plaster shell filled with cold foam. The body is also layered in supple red cow leather; and it is sustained with a shaft and 4-star base made from aluminum and machined steel. on top of that, the chair also shows a plain steel mechanism that allows the seat to regulate at different heights.

The Egg Chair is believed to be influenced by the “Womb Chair” by Finnish-American designer Eero Saarinens, though it is quarreled that Jacobsen’s design is more complete. moreover, the Egg also shares comparisons with other Jacobsen furniture creations, including the Swan Chair, the Ant Chair, and the Grand Prix.
