The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
For many, one of the best slashing movies ever made was The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. While other similar films have been made, Texas Chainsaw has continually stood out above the rest when it comes to scary horror films. Whether it is the thought of a cannibalistic serial killer or the fear of becoming a piece of chainsaw art, this is one movie that definitely remains in the minds of many who have seen it.
While the main murdering character in the movie is somewhat based on a real serial killer, the movie itself is a work of fiction. Creator Tobe Hooper based the main character, Leatherface, on Wisconsin serial killer Ed Gein, who was given credit for several different murders that were committed in the 1950s. He was also reported to have cut up some of his victims and used their bones and body parts for clothing and other items.
This movie is still known today as one of the scariest horror films of all time. Maybe this is because the story associated with The Texas chainsaw massacre is one that could actually happen. For many people, vampires and werewolves do not make it on the scary scale, but give them a nutcase wielding a chainsaw chain power tool and the adrenaline starts pumping. Most people fear those things that could actually happen over fictional characters with pins in their heads or long fangs peering out of their mouths, such as with creatures of the night.
If you have seen The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, whether you liked the movie or not, then you will probably admit that the premise is pretty scary. Having a half-crazed cannibal running toward you waving construction tools is not something that most people witness everyday. If it ever was to happen, then no doubt it would probably get their adrenaline going and their bodies fleeing out the door. Most often, movies that show true life situations end up being far scarier than those that really couldn’t occur. As far fetched as the storyline may be, viewers realize that it could possibly happen. Monster horror movies don’t always affect most people in that way, simply because a ghost with a bad attitude isn’t nearly as horrible as a crazy man with a power saw.
