Which One Will You Choose
If you are finding for a Barcelona Chair for your living room or office, then you have a very complicated taste. Created by the renowned architect-designer Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Barcelona chairs are popular for their sleek, minimalist feature and as a timeless symbol of the 20th century modern furniture movement. However, it is also famous for its relatively high price tag. Although the chair was supposedly designed as a furnishing for the ordinary man, it was a stark against to the chair’s original price of $6,281. The Barcelona chair’s high price is continued to this very day as manufacturers said to be licensed to produce Barcelona Chairs, such as Knoll and Gordon International, price the chairs between $800 and $2,500. Because of this, consumers who would like to have their own Barcelona chair but cannot afford to purchase a licensed one revert to reproduction pieces.
As its name shows, reproduction Barcelona Chairs are chairs recreated from the Barcelona chair design and manufactured by third-party companies. The borderline between licensed and reproduction pieces is that the manufacturers of the reproductions do not have a license to make them. Because of this, reproduction chairs are noticeably cheaper than their licensed counterparts, but often at the cost of quality.
Reproduction chairs are often made by manufacturers based in several countries, namely Argentina, Brazil, Germany, China, Vietnam, and Thailand. One of the reasons why reproduction Barcelona chairs that come from these countries are so cheap priced is that the equipments used in it come from local suppliers, thus cutting down in costs on importation and transportation. And in some cases, the local equipments give the reproduction chairs a somewhat “distinct” look. A good example of this is reproduction chair that is manufactured from Argentina. Although the leather from a reproduction chair from Argentina seems perfectly the same as the leather from the Italian leather from the original, to the trained eye the Argentine leather is deeper grains and is heavy to the hand.
Although it is tempting for an individual to buy reproduction Barcelona chairs based on the country they were manufactured, it is not perfectly accurate. China, for example, makes both the best and the worst Barcelona chair reproduction. Even some manufacturers based in Italy – a country known|popular|famous for their meticulous quality especially to leather – produce chairs using substandard quality equipments and sell them to the so-called “export” market. This is why fake chairs are often a double-edged sword, as the chair that you have purchased can either be of good or terrible quality.
